| Halloweekend of Doom: 13 Comic Books To Haunt Your Halloween |
 |

It’s that time of year again, boys and girls! The temperature has dropped, the leaves have turned from green to varying shades of orange and red; children dress in the guise of their favorite characters, and the flickering of candles show the yellow grins of the jack-o-lanterns adorning the porches of your neighborhood. It’s Halloween, folks, and while there’s plenty of people out there that like cute, plastic pumpkins on their doors, we here at Geeks of Doom like our Halloweens a little more horrifying. So, it’s with this, Halloweekend, that I will be bringing to you a series of horror-themed features that showcase the wicked side of geek entertainment. In the first installment of what I like to call Halloweekend of Doom, I’m going to explore 13 comic books that should get you in the mood for the greatest time of year. The list is in no particular order, and this isn’t intended to be the be all end all of horror comics, but these comics are great to read during Halloween. I’ll cover some that can be considered family friendly, but the majority of these are strictly dark and for mature audiences.

| North Carolina Comic Shop Owner Bans ‘Action Comics’, Then Lifts Ban
In the most ridiculous news story related comic books this week, North Carolina-based retailer The Comic Conspiracy bans the newly relaunched Action Comics and then lifts the ban two days later. Why did he ban the comic? Well, in case you don’t read comics, apparently there has been a socialist left-wing liberal agenda that has populated comic books over the past 75 years. And it all came to a head on Wednesday when the Grant Morrison-scripted Action Comics showed Superman utter the horribly offensive “GD.” The shock of reading Superman being hit by an explosion and grunting crossed the line for the comic retailer as he took to his Facebook page and let those commies know what’s what. Here’s a series of those Facebook posts here below.

| Watch Now: ‘Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods’ |
 |

Well, isn’t this a nice piece of information? The folks at Gravitas Ventures have blessed us all with a free look at 2010’s Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods. The doc is now streaming for free online at Hulu; you can watch it here below. The documentary on the popular comic book writer takes an inside look behind the scenes to show us more about the life of the man behind the creation of All Star Superman, The Invisibles, We3, and more. One of the greatest things about this documentary is that you actually feel like you get to know Morrison better. In the film, Morrison talks about his childhood in Scotland, growing up with the threat of the nuclear bomb, and how he let his mind escape away from the threat. The documentary focuses mostly on his life and experiences, which in turn gives us a more in depth understanding of a lot of his comic book creations, but mostly his work on The Invisibles, Animal Man, All Star Superman, and Final Crisis.
