| Exclusive: Jill Thompson Cover For Dark Horse’s ‘Beasts Of Burden: Neighborhood Watch’ |
|
Dark Horse Comics has announced the release of Beasts Of Burden: Neighborhood Watch, a one-shot collecting three short short stories by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson, and we have an exclusive look at Thompson’s cover, which you can view here below. The Eisner Award-winning team bring back some of their most beloved characters in this one-shot, which features the gang of neighborhood pets battling a chicken-stealing goblin, a basilisk, and helping a strange, lost heard of sheep find their way. As usual with Beasts Of Burden, things don’t go so easily. The stories can be fun, humorous, and heartwarming as much as they can be twisted, frightening, and heart-breaking. All these reasons are why I love this comic and this cast of characters. If you haven’t checked out Beasts Of Burden: Animal Rites, it won’t be a necessity to follow the events of Neighborhood Watch, which was originally released in Dark Horse Presents, although I highly recommend it if you enjoy good comics.

| Halloweekend of Doom: 13 Comic Books To Haunt Your Halloween |
|
It’s that time of year again, boys and girls! The temperature has dropped, the leaves have turned from green to varying shades of orange and red; children dress in the guise of their favorite characters, and the flickering of candles show the yellow grins of the jack-o-lanterns adorning the porches of your neighborhood. It’s Halloween, folks, and while there’s plenty of people out there that like cute, plastic pumpkins on their doors, we here at Geeks of Doom like our Halloweens a little more horrifying. So, it’s with this, Halloweekend, that I will be bringing to you a series of horror-themed features that showcase the wicked side of geek entertainment. In the first installment of what I like to call Halloweekend of Doom, I’m going to explore 13 comic books that should get you in the mood for the greatest time of year. The list is in no particular order, and this isn’t intended to be the be all end all of horror comics, but these comics are great to read during Halloween. I’ll cover some that can be considered family friendly, but the majority of these are strictly dark and for mature audiences.

| Andrew Adamson To Take ‘Beasts of Burden’ To The Big ScreenEisner award winning, and one of my personal favorite, comic book series Beasts of Burden is making its way to the big screen care of Andrew Adamson, director of The Chronicles of Narnia and Shrek. The comic, created by writer Evan Dorkin and artist Jill Thompson, is a compelling story based around a group of dogs and one cat protecting their neighborhood from evil forces. The book does an incredible job of exploring each one of the characters and the relationships between them while also showing the importance of bravery and friendship. It can be funny, exciting, heartwarming, and heartbreaking. I’ll be ecstatic if the movie can give me one-fourth of the enjoyment that the book did.
