Jill Thompson The Sandman movie pitch production art

Neil Gaiman‘s Sandman comic book series is, much like Watchman, considered to be one of those “unfilmable” properties, which might explain why we haven’t seen a big screen adaptation of it. While fans tend to agree that the propriety might be better off on the small screen, which Geoff Johns said was still happening as of a year ago, there was a time when Gaiman pitched a Sandman movie to Warner Bros. Part of that pitch included concept art provided by Jill Thompson, whose previously worked on the comic book as well as many other series like Wonder Woman, The Invisibles, and Fables.

Thompson recently put up for sale 27 pieces of Sandman movie concept art. Check them out here below.

Beasts of Burden Header by Jill Thompson

Dark Horse Comics has announced the release of Beasts Of Burden: Neighborhood Watch, a one-shot collecting three short short stories by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson, and we have an exclusive look at Thompson’s cover, which you can view here below.

The Eisner Award-winning team bring back some of their most beloved characters in this one-shot, which features the gang of neighborhood pets battling a chicken-stealing goblin, a basilisk, and helping a strange, lost heard of sheep find their way. As usual with Beasts Of Burden, things don’t go so easily. The stories can be fun, humorous, and heartwarming as much as they can be twisted, frightening, and heart-breaking. All these reasons are why I love this comic and this cast of characters. If you haven’t checked out Beasts Of Burden: Animal Rites, it won’t be a necessity to follow the events of Neighborhood Watch, which was originally released in Dark Horse Presents, although I highly recommend it if you enjoy good comics.

The Shade by Tony Harris

There are a great deal of comic books that are released on a monthly basis, so many in fact that some of the best of the lot can fall through the cracks of hardcore comic book fans’ pull lists because quite frankly, you can’t buy everything. So, it’s working under that assumption, as well as weekly beatings from my editor, that I will begin proving you with a somewhat consistent installment of Comics You Should Be Reading. And when I think of a comic that everyone should absolutely be reading, none comes to mind quicker right now than that of The Shade by James Robinson.

The September Relaunch of the entire line of comics from DC Comics caused a huge commotion. Fans were notified that the publishing company would be throwing out all of its continuity, which ended up being more selective continuity than anything else, and while that shocked many of its readership, it provided a whole new landscape of creative possibilities for a wealth of brilliant minds. Fifty-two titles were announced initially, and then came the announcement of a handful of mini-series. Enter The Shade.
