Okay, first off, if I have to try to convince you to buy a comic that contains eight premiere issues for a measly six bucks then I might just have to reassess what I am doing here.

I have reviewed any number of these titles at different times and I cannot even begin to stress to you how great of a deal this is. Dark Horse Comics continues to amaze me with their marketing strategies. I can think of no better way to test out some new comics than with this compilation. Folks, I present to you Dark Horse Number Ones!

Hellboy 2

Last month there was hope that Hellboy 3 would happen after Oscar-nominated director Guillermo del Toro tweeted that he spoke with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and star Ron Perlman about making a sequel.

It would have been nearly a decade since we’ve heard anything about a potential sequel, with all parties being highly interested in returning to that franchise. Unfortunately, nothing came of it. Now del Toro has confirmed that Hellboy 3 “will not happen.” More on the story below.

Hellboy Right Hand Of Doom Red Ale

I think it’s only fitting that Geeks of Doom helps spread the news about a beer called the Right Hand of Doom, don’t you?

Created to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Hellboy, this limited edition item is a must for any Mike Mignola fan. Thanks to Rogue Ales working in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics, the public is able to grab a taste of this red ale starting February 22, 2015. Unless you are lucky enough to live in Portland where it will be available a few days earlier at a local comic shop by the name of Things From Another World Comics.

Check out the full announcement from the official press release below! Maybe you’ll able to have some delivered right to your door! Be sure to confirm you can have it sent, some states (like mine) don’t allow it.

I’ve always felt that I could count on Dark Horse Comics to give me unparalleled supernatural stories. I mean, no matter what is going on, they always have some of the greatest (and darkest) writers around. Hell, Lovecraft would have read these comics! My one gripe, though, is that it’s sometimes difficult to jump into a series because of all the back story and history that goes into their long running books. Take this one, for instance: B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth, Volume 9: The Reign of the Black Flame doesn’t just have a lengthy title, it’s also got a metric ton of plot lines that have preceded this one. Which leads me to my problem…

It has been more than two decades since Mike Mignola‘s demon-spawned defender of humanity Hellboy first debuted in the pages of San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. Since then the character has endured into countless comic book miniseries, specials, one-shots, spin-offs, direct-to-video animated features, and two big-budget Hollywood adventures that have only furthered enhanced and expanded Mignola’s rich, mysterious, and often terrifying mythology.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of their most beloved characters Dark Horse Comics has assembled Hellboy: The First 20 Years, a lavish hardcover volume (also available for Kindle) of original and vintage artwork chronicling Hellboy’s rise from his auspicious beginnings as a cult favorite horror comic hero to an icon of pop culture.
