True Blood is meeting the true death tonight. While some of the cast members had managed to work on higher profile projects in between seasons (Joe Manganiello in Magic Mike; Alexander Skarsgard in Straw Dogs; Anna Paquin in X-Men: Days of Future Past), some of the cast did little else, choosing to hone their True Blood character (or enjoy their time off — I know I would). Still…we always had the comfort of knowing that come Summer, we could still catch Sookie and the gang jump from one bloody predicament to another.
But alas…everything must come to an end eventually, especially if it is as frivolously fun as True Blood. That doesn’t mean we won’t be able to see our faves act, direct, produce, and even write other films and television shows, right? So what can we look forward to? Here’s a look at what’s next for some of our favorite True Blood cast members.
Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) is set to take on the lead role in Tarzan, with Margot Robbie as his wife, Jane. It’s not a rehash of the old tale, but takes place years after Tarzan has left the jungle. Directed by David Yates (Harry Potter fame) and also starring Samuel Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Djimon Hounsou, Tarzan is set to be released in summer 2016. Skarsgard is also set to star in Diary of a Teenage Girl with Kristen Wiig and Christopher Meloni in 2015.
Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) and Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse): The family that works together, stays together. And they don’t want to stray too far from home. Their production company, CASM films, announced May 8th, 2014 on Facebook and to Deadline, that the married duo worked out a two year first look deal with HBO to produce, direct, and act in several projects. Paquin will write and direct Pink Hotel, Moyer will direct Columbia with Denis O’Hare, and Moyer will also star in Twinkle, directed by Howie Deutch.
Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte): Everybody’s favorite shifter has just finished up The Aftermath as drug addict Sonny of which he is the writer and executive producer. The movie was funded through a Kickstarter campaign and there is no release date as of yet. He has just started working on the television movie Cocked, as Richard Paxson, also starring Jason Lee and Brian Dennehy.
Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse) stars in 7500, a supernatural tale about weird happenings on a 10-hour flight bound for Tokyo, also starring Amy Smart and Leslie Bibb, premiering on October 3rd. He has a small part in Reach Me on October 24th, about a group of people connected in different ways to a self-help book, that stars Sylvester Stallone, Lauren Cohan, Kyra Sedgewick, Thomas Jane, Tom Sizemore, Cary Ewles, Kevin Connelly and more.
Here is Ryan in the 7500 trailer:
Kristin Bauer Van Straten (Pam De Beaufort) can be seen in Teen Lust playing Mary with Cary Ewles about a high school student who’s desperate to lose his virginity before he is sacrificed to Satan by his parents.
Jim Parrack (Hoyt Fontenberry) is currently filming The Adderall Diaries with James Franco and Ed Harris, and has just completed a bunch of movies including a small part in Fury with Brad Pitt set to be released on October 17th, Holy Land as Father Waldie written by James Franco (no release date yet), and Jimmy’s Pickle as JP (no release date).
Carrie Preston’s (Arlene Fowler Bellefleur) new series will be Recorded Lives (no release date as of yet) as Risa, of which she is also the producer. Carrie also worked alongside Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton in Ruth & Alex. That movie only has a Netherlands release date of Dec 18, 2014 so far.
Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds) will play Bartley in Bolden! with Michael Rooker, Ian McShane, and Gary Carr as Buddy Bolden, New Orleans cornet king, to be released in November of 2015.
Rutina Wesley (Tara) is in the midst of filming The Perfect Guy with Morris Chestnut, Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy.
Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) is currently filming Marvel’s Daredevil pilot for Netflix as Karen Page. Charlie Cox is playing Daredevil.
Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux) is in pre-production for four movies: Magic Mike XXL reprising his role as Big Dick Richie; Shoedog as Constantine; Stano as Bobby Stano, and Shoplifters of the World as Full Metal Mickey.
