| Next LEGO Movie ‘Ninjago’ Gets A Release Date
The LEGO Movie was a smash success, scoring $460.7 million worldwide on a $60 million budget, so it should come as no great shock that Warner Brothers wants to turn it into the next huge franchise. A direct sequel to the movie is already in the works for a planned 2017 release, and now comes word of a September 23, 2016 release date for a spinoff titled Ninjago. The movie will be based on the Ninjago line of ninja-inspired LEGOs, and will be directed by Charlie Bean, who previously directed Tron: Uprising for Disney XD and will be making his feature debut here. Bryan Shukoff and Kevin Chesley wrote the screenplay.

| ‘Lego Movie’ Directors In Talks For ‘Ghostbusters 3’
Ghostbusters 3, the sequel no one really wants to happen, is being made whether we like it or not. But as we reported yesterday it won’t have its original director at the helm. With Ivan Reitman departing the big chair to take on a producer’s role on the long-gestating supernatural comedy rebootquel, the job of directing GB3 will doubtlessly be filled by a younger director. Or if the latest rumors are based in truth, it will get two directors. According to industry insider Nikki Finke, the latest candidates to direct Ghostbusters 3 are none other than the unbeatable team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. With a string of surprise live-action and animated blockbusters like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and most recently The Lego Movie to their credit, these guys are two of the hottest filmmakers working today.

| ‘Masters Of The Universe’: Rian Johnson, Joe Cornish On Rumored Shortlist To Direct
Sony Pictures’ long-in-development live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe recently lost its latest director when Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who had signed on to the project in the summer of 2012, departed to make the next G.I. Joe sequel. Back in October Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mask of Zorro co-writer Terry Rossio was hired to pen a new draft after a previous effort by Alex Litvak (Predators) and Mike Finch didn’t pass muster with the studio. This reboot is apparently of great importance to the franchise-famished Sony because they have put together a list of potential directors to take over for Chu, and if this list is genuine, then Masters of the Universe could turn out to be pretty damn great after all.

| ‘The Lego Movie’ Trailer: Batman Takes A Shot A Bat Puns
We should try to stop looking at Chris Miller and Phil Lord‘s The Lego Movie as something that looks like the most expensive commercial that you would have to pay to see. For one thing the two, who brought us the first Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street, brought their signature humor to turn this seemingly large product placement movie into a hysterical stop-motion animated film involving almost a billion Lego pieces and hundreds of Lego characters ranging from the ordinary to extraordinary like Batman, a wizard, Michelangelo of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, President Abraham Lincoln, and a cop who can turn from good cop to bad cop simply by switching faces. We’ve already seen one trailer for the movie, and now a second trailer has arrived. Hit the jump to see it.
