Disney CEO Not Expecting ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ To Be As Successful As ‘The Force Awakens’

Felicity Jones in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The Star Wars universe will be venturing into a new galaxy this year as they will be releasing their first spinoff film. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will center on a group of Rebel fighters attempting to steal the plans to the Death Star. A true prequel that takes place before A New Hope. But the exciting part of the film is that it will focus on those who don’t have Jedi powers and have a ground war feel to it. But troubles behind-the-scenes have put the film in a very awkward position. Partially because Star Wars: The Force Awakens was such a massive hit, there are expectations that Disney should be able to follow up that same success for every new film released. And with the summer-long reshoots that took place and the addition of new creative forces, it seems like Rogue One could fall short of the expectations that The Force Awakens established last year.

And that’s what Disney CEO Bob Iger is not afraid to admit, but he is also remains optimistic that it could do very well based on the reactions to the marketing campaign. Check out what he had to say below.

ILM's Star Wars: The Force Awakens VFX

There were lots of practical effects used in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as we know. Something we don’t see enough of these days, especially with movies as big as it is, and something that fans appreciated greatly. But there were also many digital effects created for the movie, of course.

Industrial Lights & Magic has released a new video showcasing some of the visual effects they worked on for The Force Awakens. The video runs about four minutes, and includes a bunch of digital effects ILM was responsible for including sets, ships, characters, and more. Mainly, it’s yet another cool look at the crazy stuff that can be accomplished on computers these days.

You can check out the video below.

This should be an exciting moment for all Star Wars fans as Disney has formally announced that they will be releasing a 3D version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens alongside a real collector’s edition of the movie on home video.

While most of us do not have the 3D TVs necessary to see the film in the proper 3D format as advertised, the upcoming collector’s edition, which is set for release later this fall, does come with some cool new bonus features that weren’t included in the original DVD/Blu-ray that was released a few months ago. Hit the jump to see what kind of cool new bonus features you can see if you purchase the item.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Props

A video has been released showing the making of some ultra cool Star Wars: The Force Awakens Ultimate Studio Edition props made by a company that actually worked on the props for the movie itself. These collectibles include replicas of Darth Vader’s damaged helmet, Rey’s staff, and Finn’s blood-marked stormtrooper helmet.

If you’re a Star Wars fanatic who loves to purchase collectibles and prop replicas, you’re going to want to get your hands on these bad boys. They’re about as good as you can get apart from actually getting your hands on official props. But unfortunately, not many fans will easily be able to afford them.

You can find more information, including where to buy them, and see the video of some of them being made below.

Star Wars Day: And Then There Were Seven

Star Wars The Force Awakens Title Card

I have had a tough time this year coming up with a topic for this most important date, May The 4th, aka Star Wars Day. So I’m going to just speak from the heart about the tragedy that befell my family thanks to my own selfishness and thoughtlessness. Beware, for this could happen to you, too!

A year ago, I wrote a piece about how my daughter had recently discovered and become enamored with Star Wars, or at least the six films we had at that time. I fixated, yes I chose that word correctly, on her love of the franchise and how I felt vindicated in raising this amazing little mini-me. I spoke longingly of that which once was and my hopes of what might be. All of this happened over half a year before the new film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, came to theaters near us all. I wrote how I respected creator George Lucas for his vision, if not for his revisions. I did all of this before I saw the new film. The new film that Disney created.
