“United we stand. Divided we fall.”

In 2011, Super Soldier Steve Rogers made his debut in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Influenced by Raiders of the Lost Ark and Johnston’s own 1991 film, The Rocketeer, The First Avenger was designed as a ’40s adventure serial. 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, was a ’70s political thriller in the vein of Three Days of the Condor and All the President’s Men.

The Russos’ follow-up, Captain America: Civil War, is influenced by movies like The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back, sprawling sagas that tell intricate stories where every character has an arc. And like those enduring classics, Civil War is a gripping, emotionally resonant film that enriches and deepens a mythology and our connection to it. Its greatness lies in the groundwork laid by its predecessors; twelve films that comprise an unprecedented experiment in long-form storytelling, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There’s A “Strong” Chance Marvel Studios Could Have An LGBT Character

Marvel Studios logo

Disney-owned properties are no stranger to progression and diversity, and as such it can create a stir of controversy. Disney’s Zootopia wasn’t afraid to talk about idealized acceptance and has become a hit. However, there are still those who are upset at progressive changes like having a Black stormtrooper, a female lead the future of the Star Wars franchise, and a new Disney animated movie featuring the studio’s first Polynesian princess. But in a day and age where it isn’t enough just to talk about these issues, studios are finding that they can talk about them head on through their films.

While these risks can pay off, it certainly may not sit well with those with opposing ideals, not only here in the U.S. but other nations around the world as well. And now, one of the bigger questions is when we will see a LGBT character play a role in a franchise film. Well, The Russo Brothers have an answer to that. According to them, the chances of a LGBT character appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is strong.

More on the story below.

Avengers: Infinity War Title Card

In 2014, Marvel made a huge announcement about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe saying that Phase 3 would end with a two-part Avengers film appropriately titled Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II. Most believed that the project was following the tradition of closing trilogies being split into two films. With the amount of characters involved throughout the entire three phases, it would probably be best to split it into two films so that the characters got their justified screen times. Now with the Captain America: Civil War press tour pretty much completed, The Russo Brothers are talking about Avengers: Infinity War, and have dropped one very revealing detail.

According to them, the Part I and Part II titles are “misleading.” More on the story here below.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

This week, Anthony Russo and his brother Joe Russo, the directors of Marvel Studios’ soon-to-open Captain America: Civil War and the forthcoming two-part event Avengers: Infinity War, sat down with the good folks of Screen Junkies responsible for their hilarious – and often infuriating – “Honest Trailers” series to dissect and discuss with warm candor the Honest Trailer made for their first major Marvel Movie – 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

You can watch the full video here below. I’ve also included the Winter Soldier Honest Trailer without commentary for your viewing pleasure.

Thanos

For Marvel Studios, Avengers: Infinity War is so massive it had to be split into two parts. The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) will be reteaming with their Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on the two-part epic.

While the Russos let slip and then backtracked on the idea that there will be 67 characters in the film, Markus and McFeely went on to clarify even further how many characters will be facing The Mad Titan. According to them, there won’t be 67 characters but Thanos will be getting lots of good screen time. More on the story below.

There are no successful superhero film franchises under one roof like the ones over at Marvel Studios. Time and time again the studio has repeated its success, risen to beat expectations, and even found ways to reinvent itself to keep their respective franchises fresh and engaging. These sequels are no longer sequels, they are political thrillers, fantasy adventures, buddy cops comedies, heist capers, space operas, and much more to come.

Now the studio will christen Phase 3 of the MCU with a bold new storytelling direction. Starting off with Captain America: Civil War, where our heroes and their beliefs come into conflict as Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) will engage in an ideological battle that will determine the fate of the Avengers.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Won’t Be A Traditional Two-Part Film

Guardians of the Galaxy villain Thanos

There has been a common theme for studios to turn the end of a film franchise into a two-part finale. Traditionally these two parters have the first half act as some sort of prologue with the final half being an explosive action-packed film.

However, Anthony and Joe Russo will be taking a different approach to Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II. Instead of the substandard film split into two parts, it seems as though they the two films won’t have much of anything to do with each other. Check out what they had to say below.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Featurette Details Rift Between Cap and Iron Man

Captain America: Civil War Featurette

As its title suggests Captain America: Civil War will center on the infighting between two of the greatest Avengers: Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). It will still be a film that focuses mainly on its titular hero, while also marking the first time that a hero like Iron Man will appear in a role bigger than a cameo. With the world recovering from the events of Ultron’s attack on the Earth, Sokovia Accords was created in order to regulate the deployment of enhanced individuals, particularly the Avengers, orchestrated by world governments.

We saw a little bit of that in action in the first trailer for the film, and now a new featurette that can be seen in the Phase 2 Box Set helps explain how it all led up to Civil War in greater detail, and how the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest hero will play the role of the “monarch.” Check it out below.

‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot With Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt May Still Happen

Ghostbusters Logo Title

Production for Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters is already in full swing, but any hopes of the male Ghostbusters film has nearly dissipated. Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt were both attached to the project, and with rumors of Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America Civil War) directing using a script written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), it seemed that the reboot was going to become a reality. Then came word that the project wasn’t going to happen. Tatum’s producing partner said “we’re not doing that any more,” while Pratt said the rumor was “complete BS.” Plus the Russo brothers have their hands full with directing both parts of Avengers: Infinity War.

It may have looked like the Ghostbusters spinoff was going to hit a development stall, but Pearce has come out saying that the film may still happen. More on the story below.
