Geek Costumes

We at Geeks of Doom love Halloween. The smell in the air, the leaves changing color to mark the occasion, and all of the old edited horror movies playing over and over on your TV make it one of the most entertaining and exciting times of year.

Back in 2006, we compiled a list of some of the best geek costumes on the market for those of you who do not yet have an idea as to what you want to be. It’s already been three years now, so we thought it was about time to compile another epic list of costume options for the undecided (which includes myself).

While checking these costumes out, keep some things in mind — most importantly: pretty much every costume that you see will have multiple styles of varying price and quality. The majority of the ones we have here are in the $30-$50 range, but you can find really high-quality “Deluxe” versions of the costume that will run you in the $100-$200 dollar range. These are for the folks who have money to spare and love authenticity. If you’re out of your freakin’ mind, there’s even Batman and Darth Vader costumes that will run you $700+ dollars. If you don’t like the one we’ve linked to, just search the character and check out all of the others that exist. Most costumes have children’s versions available, too. We’ve included some great kids’ costumes, but if you find an adult one you’d like for the little ones, just search it out!

Also worth keeping in mind: a lot of these costumes have female counter-costumes that would be perfect for couples looking to match up. Oh, and it won’t be stupid like going as a plug and an electrical socket. Tee-hee.

Many, many costume options were found for men, women, children, and pets, so please continue on and check some of them out!

Toy Story 3

It was an exciting day when the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 was released, but that trailer didn’t show us too much in terms of story and such. It was clear that the real moment of magic — not counting the day we can see it in theaters on June 18, 2010 — would be when we were able to watch the full theatrical trailer…and that moment is right now. The official Toy Story 3 trailer has been released to the masses and can be seen here below!

The trailer is wonderful, as you fairly might have assumed, and it whisks you right back to that world, complete with all the glorious nostalgia you possess there. It opens up with a nice, warm little re-introduction to the young boy Andy and his childhood with everyone’s favorite toy box before shooting us to present day where Andy — now 18-years-old — is off to college and trying to figure out what to do with his old toys. We find out that they’re shipped off to a daycare center where a rather humorous segment of rampaging toddlers tears through the bunch. This sets up the main story of the crew attempting a daring escape from the daycare and their adventure to find home.

Cars 2

It feels like it has been a week since any news that didn’t involve Disney has come out. The Mouse House recently held their D23 Expo and a flood of announcements were made, including some new information on the highly anticipated sequels Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

Toy Story 3 basically just made a bunch of casting announcements. /Film picked up on some Tweets from director Lee Unkrich and Disney that revealed that John Morris, the boy who voiced Andy in Toy Story and Toy Story 2, has been cast once again in the role, which now sees Andy as an 18-year-old young man. Also added to the cast is a great collection of names, some of which are Pixar veterans. Lending their voices once again will be Bonnie Hunt (A Bug’s Life/Cars/Monsters Inc., Jerry Maguire) and Jeff Garlin (Wall-E, Curb Your Enthusiasm); while new to the Pixar dance is Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) and Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz), who will apparently be playing someone named Mr. Pricklepants.

Official ‘Toy Story 3’ Teaser Trailer Is Here!

Toy Story 3

Every Summer, Pixar releases their latest and greatest movie, which always seems to be be even more loved than the last. Along with these movies, we usually get just a little teeny weeny look at what next Summer has in store for us in the form of a teaser trailer. This year was a special year though, because we knew that in 2010, Toy Story 3 would finally greet us…a decade after we last saw our favorite animated toys. Unfortunately, we quickly learned that Disney’s newest return to hand-drawn animation, The Princess and the Frog, would actually be the one teased in front of this year’s Up, and that Toy Story 3‘s teaser would show in front of the new 3-D double-feature re-release of Toy Story & Toy Story 2 this October. Thankfully, this did not last long!

In a joyous turn-of-events, Disney/Pixar chose not to make everyone wait that long, and hook the teaser to Up after all, and now, it is here to watch as many times as you want.

The trailer doesn’t show anything regarding the actual movie or where the story will be going; it’s basically just a delightful re-introduction to all of our favorite characters who are busy constructing the new title. It’s funny, cute, completely simple, and absolutely perfect until we get our hands on a full trailer.

Click on over to watch the brief teaser here. You can also head over to Apple for the HD version, which is by far the best quality peek.
