| Is This What Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman Would Have Looked Like? |

There’s been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the new costume design for Wonder Woman, with many feeling that giving the iconic superhero pants really misses the mark.
Shawna Trpcic, a costume designer who worked on Joss Whedon shows like Firefly, Angel, Dr. Horrible’s Sing A-Long Blog, and Dollhouse, revealed designs for the superhero that she created for live-action Wonder Woman movie that Whedon was linked to in 2005, before leaving the project in 2007. Trpcic took it upon herself to post four sketches of her costume designs for that Wonder Woman project to her Twitter account. Her designs aren’t really similar to those of Jim Lee, who did the recent redesign for DC Comics, except for the part that people seem to be the most upset about — pants! (Of the four, two versions include pants.) Check out the images here below and let us know if you like Trpcic’s designs better than what we are getting now.

| Why The ‘New’ Wonder Woman Misses The Mark |
 |
When DC Comics announced Wonder Woman was getting re-imagined for the 21st century, I immediately went on the defensive. The character is an icon now in the same way that Superman is. Her costume, regardless of how unpractical it may be, is also iconic, which is something you don’t dare change no matter how badly it defies conventional design theory (just ask Google about their own logo). But the thing I felt like invoking the most was “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Despite the inevitable fan backlash, DC editorial is going forward with their plans to “update” Wonder Woman. They’ve hired the talented J. Michael Straczynski as regular scribe who’ll kick off the new storyline that gives our heroine a new origin due to the gods changing history. Diana has now grown up in a modern society and barely remembers the former life. She has all the same powers and abilities as well as a new “modernized” costume designed by co-publisher (not to mention legendary artist) Jim Lee. While combining the talents of top industry creators for a revamp is usually a formula for success, the “new” Wonder Woman fails before I even gaze upon the first page. Here’s why…

| Wonder Woman Gets A New Costume & Origin Story By Willie Gillis
After years of having the same look, Wonder Woman is getting a makeover. In Wonder Woman #600 of Wonder Woman, released in comic shops today, the Amazon Princess gets a modern redesign of her legendary costume. The costume, redesigned by DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee, coincides with the start of a new creative team on the book as well as a new adventure for Wonder Woman. The new team consists of writer J. Michael Straczynski and artists Don Kramer and Michael Babinski. Check out Wonder Woman in her new costume here at right (click image for larger, full view). The direction for the book puts Wonder Woman in a modern era where her original origin story has been altered. The world she would have known is now destroyed and her Amazon race is in danger of extinction. Wonder Woman’s world is now in an urban setting where she knows little about her previous life and she will have to fight to survive.

| J. Michael Straczynski Taking Over ‘Superman’ And ‘Wonder Woman’ In July |
By Vactor
| March 8th, 2010 at 2:29 pm |
DC Comics announced this morning that Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski will have his hands full with Superman and Wonder Woman later this year, aiming to return the icons to their rightful places at the top.
Starting in July with Superman #701 and Wonder Woman #601 JMS takes over as writer on both titles. (Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone recently announced her departure from the title to work on other DC series.) He’ll also have a story in each of the anniversary issues (issue 700) to lead into his new ongoing runs. DC’s Source Blog is promising more details regarding the direction of the titles and the artists joining him in the coming months, along with an essay penned by the writer later today. Superman will hit issue #700 in June, just after the War of the Superman weekly event wraps in May. Wonder Woman returns to its original numbering with May’s #600 after a DC-promoted post card campaign proved effective.

| The Geeks Of Doom Guide To Geeky Halloween Costumes |
 |

We at Geeks of Doom love Halloween. The smell in the air, the leaves changing color to mark the occasion, and all of the old edited horror movies playing over and over on your TV make it one of the most entertaining and exciting times of year. Back in 2006, we compiled a list of some of the best geek costumes on the market for those of you who do not yet have an idea as to what you want to be. It’s already been three years now, so we thought it was about time to compile another epic list of costume options for the undecided (which includes myself). While checking these costumes out, keep some things in mind — most importantly: pretty much every costume that you see will have multiple styles of varying price and quality. The majority of the ones we have here are in the $30-$50 range, but you can find really high-quality “Deluxe” versions of the costume that will run you in the $100-$200 dollar range. These are for the folks who have money to spare and love authenticity. If you’re out of your freakin’ mind, there’s even Batman and Darth Vader costumes that will run you $700+ dollars. If you don’t like the one we’ve linked to, just search the character and check out all of the others that exist. Most costumes have children’s versions available, too. We’ve included some great kids’ costumes, but if you find an adult one you’d like for the little ones, just search it out! Also worth keeping in mind: a lot of these costumes have female counter-costumes that would be perfect for couples looking to match up. Oh, and it won’t be stupid like going as a plug and an electrical socket. Tee-hee. Many, many costume options were found for men, women, children, and pets, so please continue on and check some of them out!
