Rumor: ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Attached To ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

Captain America: Civil War Superhero Factions

It’s been a few months since we saw the footage of Captain America: Civil War at the D23 Expo. At the time there was only about a week’s worth of shooting left before the sequel was completed. Much of what we saw looked pretty polished, and could have been condensed and cut for a trailer. But nothing has been released since then. One might suspect that they would attach the first trailer to a tentpole film, which would make sense since September and October aren’t known for blockbuster films.

While there have been rumors that the Civil War trailer would be attached to Spectre, which is in U.K. theaters now but drops in North America next week, there is another one that says it will be attached to none other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Because, you know, both Marvel and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney. More on this story below.

Collider was the first to drop the exclusive story. The site is rather reliable when it comes to these stories, but there a few things that has us think that it might not be true.

One of the things that has us believe that it will drop on the opening weekend of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is because it is going to be on of the biggest opening weekends, so why not attach one of the biggest films of 2016 to the most anticipated film of the year.

But here is where it gets a little shady. A mysterious tweet sent out by an unverified Russo Brothers’ Twitter account. This account appears to be the same one that posted close-ups of props, costumes, and bullet holes a few months back. When these images came out, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said the brothers’ did not have a twitter account – his tweet has since been deleted. So if this account is still active, we have to assume that the Russo Brothers do possibly have an account. Here’s the tweet in question:

So what exactly are we looking at? Another close-up of something from the set of Captain America: Civil War. Well Collider says it doesn’t specifically have to do with anything from the film. Instead it has to do something with Star Wars, and one of the site’s readers was able to trace where the image came from. And here it is:

Star Wars Poster

So if what Collider says is true, and we are to believe that these tweets are coming from the Russos, then we have to assume that the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War is attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Again, let’s take everything with a grain of salt for now.

Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl, Captain America: Civil War is set to open in theaters on May 6, 2016.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
