“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

That line of dialogue, delivered by Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, reveals one of the key themes of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. Just because humans find the capability to do something – like build an atomic bomb or clone a prehistoric predator – doesn’t mean they should, especially if hubris and greed motivate that act of discovery.

The “lunch debate” scene between Malcolm – a scientist – and venture capitalist John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) defines the central conflict of the 1993 film. It’s also a great metaphor for what Universal Pictures has done with their Jurassic Park franchise. Just because you can make more sequels, doesn’t mean you should. Some things are better left in the past.

Enter Jurassic World, the fourth entry in Universal’s dino-driven franchise. Co-written and directed by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed), Jurassic World picks up 22 years after the events of the original film. Situated on Isla Nublar, the island from the original film, Jurassic World is a fully operational, state-of-the-art theme park with astonishing biological attractions. Dinosaurs. We’re talking about freaking dinosaurs here, guys.

The luxury resort has been a tourist destination for years, with tens of thousands of guests traveling from all over the world to see these living, breathing prehistoric creatures up close. Kids ride baby Triceratops in a petting zoo while crowds cheer as the massive Mosasaurus leaps from a SeaWorld-style performance pool to devour a great white shark suspended in mid-air.

Rumors swirled last week that The Punisher may appear in season 2 of Daredevil. This was an exciting opportunity to bring in a Marvel anti-hero that failed to see any success theatrically. But the character doesn’t come without difficulties to bring to the small screen, because the anti-hero employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his war on crime.

However it looks like Marvel and Daredevil showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be up to the task, as it has been confirmed that Punisher will appear in season 2, and that The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will play him. More on the story below.

Colin Trevorrow is going to be a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of in the coming years. Though the filmmaker does have a few directing credits to his name, he got his first major recognition for his Sundance comedy hit, Safety [Not Guaranteed]. After that, he made the leap from small indie film to Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, and more. The film, which takes place 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, sees a fully functioning park complete with rides, interactive experiences, and family friendly shows. But behind the scenes, there is a villainous plan that will put the park and everyone in it, in real danger.

We were given a special phone interview with director Colin Trevorrow, where we got to talk about Jurassic World, making that jump from an indie film to a major blockbuster, the threat that social media and internet blogging leaks present to a film production, practical effects vs CG, Star Wars, and much more.

MGM has found their primary villain for the upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven, which already features a great cast consisting of Denzel Washington (Glory, American Gangster), Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset, Boyhood), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), Vincent D’Onofrio (Men In Black, Daredevil), Wagner Moura (Elysium, Elite Squad), Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Equalizer), and Matt Bomer (White Collar, Magic Mike).

The studio has chosen Peter Sarsgaard to be the film’s biggest bad guy, a robber baron named Bartholomew Bogue. But while they’ve found their primary antagonist, the movie is also losing a villain. Game of Thrones and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jason Momoa was also recently reported to be in negotiations for a role, but now it’s being said that the actor is no longer attached to the project. Whether his duties playing Aquaman conflicted with the shooting schedule, he simply decided he didn’t want the role, or something else caused the departure is not known for sure at the moment.

Jurassic World is shaping up to be one of this summer’s most promising big-screen blockbusters, but how exactly will the fourth installment in the franchise birthed by Steven Spielberg‘s groundbreaking 1993 smash dinosaur adventure Jurassic Park address the events of the lackluster (but fun in their own way) sequels The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001)? Short answer: it won’t.

According to a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow claims that his entry in the series won’t acknowledge the second and third movies. In the world of Jurassic World, they never even happened.
