Sin City A Dame To Kill For Mickey Rourke as Marv

Sin City represented the neo-noir styles of the comic book come to life. Black and white colors, with ultra violence, stylized sex scenes, and gritty imagery that can only come from Frank Miller and be visualized into real life by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.

While the latter won’t return for a guest directing vignette, Rodriguez returns to direct its sequel, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, armed with a script written by Miller, some returning cast members like Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, and Rosario Dawson, and some new additions like Josh Brolin replacing Clive Owen as Dwight, Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Powers Boothe, Juno Temple, Jamie Chung, and more.

Dimension Films has released a brand new trailer for the film, and it is only a glimpse into the dangerous world that is Sin City. Hit the jump to check it out.

So yesterday you might have heard that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Paul Rudd, and a possible third mystery man were in the running to be Hank Pym in Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man. Depending on who you ask and how Wright wants to envision the multi-size hero, it could be either one of the two that are known. Now the shortlist has gotten even shorter as Gordon-Levitt has addressed these rumors and has officially taken himself out of the running.

Edgar Wright took a brief vacation after working on the final flavor of the Cornetto Trilogy, The World’s End. Now that it is all over, the director is hard at work getting ready for the long-gestating superhero film, Ant-Man for Marvel Studios. As proof that pre-production was commencing, Wright tweeted a photo of what looked like an early look at the film – or a photo of production of the test footage.

With everything coming together for a possible January start date, multiple names are starting to emerge as possible contenders to play Hank Pym aka Ant-Man. Variety reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd top Marvel’s shortlist, with a possibility of a third name joining the mix.

Don Jon Movie Review PosterDon Jon
Director: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Screenwriter: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza
Relativity Media
Rated R | 90 Minutes
Release Date: September 27, 2013

Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes an auspicious filmmaking debut with Don Jon, a risqué romantic comedy about Jon Martello (Gordon-Levitt), a Jersey Shore caricature with a heart of gold… and a porn addiction.

Jon is a muscular, handsome; an all-around good guy. His buddies call him “Don Jon” due to his ability to “pull” a different “perfect 10” every weekend, but even the hottest fling can’t compare to the pleasure he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography.

Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a quick-witted, gorgeous Long Island girl – and Jon’s dream woman. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming (or Channing Tatum) and live happily ever after. Saddled with unrealistic expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara both struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Don Jon

In Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Jon, a Jersey Shore-inspired character who has a serious porn addiction who falls for Jersey girl Barbara (Scarlett Johansson), but he has some unrealistic expectations about relationships. The film, which was also written and direct by Gordon-Levitt, features plenty of porn montages, thanks to Jon’s porn proclivities. While the indie was made on a small budget, Relativity picked up the film at Sundance earlier this year, and now Don Jon has a large advertising and marketing budget to work with.

So, where did some of that new advertising money go?

To place ads for the movie on porn sites, of course!

“A compass I learnt when I was surveying, it’ll… it’ll point you true north from where your standing, but it’s got no advice about the swamps, deserts and chasms that you’ll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp, what’s the use of knowing true north?”

We’re all familiar with Abraham Lincoln. We know he freed the slaves. We know his distinctive look. He’s even on our money. But how much do we really know? I for one can admit that I did not know much more than the basics, about the same as the average person would know (I fell asleep in history class a lot, what can I say), but as I’ve gotten older my interest in history has grown exponentially, and lessons via documentary or biopic and so on can be just as appealing as the latest popcorn flick.

With movies, however, we’re always wondering in the back of our brain just how historically accurate the story we’re being told really is. And this will happen no less while viewing Lincoln, the latest film from director Steven Spielberg which tells the story of our 16th president and his fight to pass the 13th Amendment, the amendment that aimed to put an end to slavery.

Bruce Willis

Robert Rodriguez has been promising a sequel to Sin City, the 2005 over-the-top noir comic adaptation he co-directed with its creator Frank Miller, since the original became a smash hit in theaters and on home video. Up until a few months ago there had not been much movement on the project outside of unfulfilled promises and expectations, but production on the upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For – a sequel that will be a combination of previously published comic stories and all-new material conceived by Miller – has been going on at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas for a while now.

Every week seems to bring exciting news on the casting front with original stars Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Jaime King reprising their roles alongside new cast members Josh Brolin (playing Dwight, Clive Owen‘s character from the original), Jamie Chung (stepping in for Devon Aoki as the deadly sword-wielding Miho), Dennis Haysbert (replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan as brutal underworld enforcer Manute), Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Christopher Meloni, and most interesting of all, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
