Prometheus Header

Prometheus left somewhat of a sour after taste for a majority of movie goers expecting to experience the same terror and fear they felt when Ridley Scott‘s Alien came out. However, when the film ended, it left enough of a tease for fans to come back for a sequel. Now there will be spoilers after the jump as to where it could go, but Fox has found a writer to pen the script for Prometheus 2.

According to The Wrap, Fox wants Jack Palgen, screenwriter for Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence, to write the script for Prometheus 2. Jon Spaihts wrote the initial script for the first film, with Damon Lindelof doing the rewrites.

Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: April 30, 2013
Cover Price: $10.99

On a distant frozen world, “artificial persons” are manufactured by mega-conglomerate Weyland-Yutani. These formidable new security synthetics, designed for combat, test their mettle against a hive of deadly Xenomorphs.

Socialization Specialist Jean DuPaul, who teaches the synthetics empathy, sees her ever-more-human android students sent to their destruction and learns that the most savage species in the universe is man.

Aliens: Inhuman Condition tells the story of Jean DuPaul and Bear, an unlikely duo in that Bear is an inanimate object – a fluffy, pink teddy bear to be exact. DuPaul lost her husband and daughter, and all she has left of her family is Bear, the stuffed synthetic play-thing that was to be her daughter’s.

Written by Eisner and Harvey Award-winner John Layman (Chew, Detective Comics), Inhuman Conditions sees DuPaul traumatized after losing her family during a Xenomorph attack. She’s eventually rescued by a task force of androids – but the damage is done.

DuPaul’s world view has been shattered, forcing her to see reality differently than her co-workers at the Weyland-Yutani manufacturing plant. She confides in Bear (think Steven Spielberg’s Artificial: Intelligence) and begins to see the Androids she teaches social skills to as living, breathing, human beings.

Prometheus Ridley Scott with Noomi Rapace

Perhaps one of the most polarizing films of last year was Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. Some called it a return to the sci-fi horror genre and others called it one of the worst things ever. If it was the latter, part of the blame could be directed towards the screenplay. Regardless, the film made just enough money to garner a sequel, or at least explore the option of one.

Scott is definitely on board to direct one, and it seems that he’s been talking to film star Noomi Rapace about it as well. During a press conference for Dead Man Down, the actress confirmed that she has been talking to the director to discuss Prometheus 2 and what we could possible see in it.

Film Quotes of 2012

2012 was a fantastic year for movies. Films like The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel’s The Avengers entertained audiences with blockbuster action sequences and the ultimate in childhood wish fulfillment, while movies such as Drew Goddard‘s Cabin in the Woods and Gareth Edward‘s The Raid: Redemption will long be remembered as putting the nail in the coffin of their respective genres.

We saw new films from acclaimed directors like Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee, David O. Russell, Paul Thomas Anderson, William Friedkin, Steven Soderbergh, Ben Affleck, Sam Mendes, and Kathryn Bigelow. Not to mention the latest offerings from Rian Johnson, Joss Whedon, Richard Linklater, and newcomers Colin Trevorrow, Benh Zeitlin, and Stephen Chbosky.

So many memorable characters – so many great lines delivered by talented actors inhabiting their roles. Here are some of the best (and a few of the worst) film quotes from 2012. Feel free to include your own in the comments! You can also check out my Top 25 Films of 2012 here!
