Christopher Nolan Rumored To Direct The Next James Bond Film

Christopher Nolan

The chances of Christopher Nolan directing the next James Bond film are pretty slim considering the fact that he is already directing Interstellar for Paramount and Warner Brothers. But what if the sci-fi film about traveling through wormholes starring Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matthew McConaughey, and Michael Caine, were to be cast aside so that Nolan could direct the next Bond film? Hard to see that happen, but there is a rumor that is starting to surface that indicate that this could very well happen.

Considering that the report comes from The Daily Mail, this rumor could be nothing more than just a rumor. According to them, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have begun informal talks with The Dark Knight Rises director. But just because Nolan cannot direct Bond 24, doesn’t mean he cannot direct the one after it. As The Daily Mail said, “It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round.”

Sam Mendes

Last year Skyfall brought the James Bond franchise roaring back to life after a four-year-long hiatus due primarily to the financial difficulties of the once mighty studio MGM. Under the direction of Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition), Skyfall became the definitive Bond film for many, earned critical raves, and was the first movie in the series to gross over $1 billion worldwide. Mendes’ intelligent handling of the material and the performances he elicited from series leads Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench were credited rightfully for a major part of the film’s creative and commercial success and it had been assumed that the director would return to helm the next outing for Ian Fleming‘s iconic superspy.

Sadly that does not look to be so. Mendes said in a recent interview with Empire that he’s turned down an offer from the producers to direct the next Bond film.

Film Quotes of 2012

2012 was a fantastic year for movies. Films like The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel’s The Avengers entertained audiences with blockbuster action sequences and the ultimate in childhood wish fulfillment, while movies such as Drew Goddard‘s Cabin in the Woods and Gareth Edward‘s The Raid: Redemption will long be remembered as putting the nail in the coffin of their respective genres.

We saw new films from acclaimed directors like Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee, David O. Russell, Paul Thomas Anderson, William Friedkin, Steven Soderbergh, Ben Affleck, Sam Mendes, and Kathryn Bigelow. Not to mention the latest offerings from Rian Johnson, Joss Whedon, Richard Linklater, and newcomers Colin Trevorrow, Benh Zeitlin, and Stephen Chbosky.

So many memorable characters – so many great lines delivered by talented actors inhabiting their roles. Here are some of the best (and a few of the worst) film quotes from 2012. Feel free to include your own in the comments! You can also check out my Top 25 Films of 2012 here!

In Skyfall, James Bond (Daniel Craig) fails to recover a drive containing sensitive information, resulting in the exposure of undercover NATO agents in terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, the enigmatic criminal mastermind Silva (Javier Bardem) orchestrates an attack on MI6 headquarters that kills several agents.

Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee Gareth Mallory (Ralph Finnes) raises concerns about M’s (Judi Dench) competence as head of the Secret Intelligence Service. It seems the only person who can restore M’s reputation is Bond. James Bond.

Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road), Skyfall is the 23rd installment of the long-running spy series, featuring an all-star ensemble that includes Naomie Harris as Eve, Ben Whishaw as Q, Bérénice Marlohe as Sévérine, and Albert Finney as Kincade.

Martin Campbell’s 2006 film, Casino Royale, rebooted the James Bond series, establishing a new timeline and narrative framework, allowing the film to show a less experienced, more vulnerable Bond. The film introduced Daniel Craig (Layer Cake) and was praised for its dark, realistic reboot of the series – in the spirit of Batman Begins.
