GoD List Banner

Each and every week “The Undisputed Champion” MK2Fac3 and “The People’s Champ” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of February 1, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I’m going to just skip the BS and tell you that a lot of great comics are coming out this week, folks. We’ve got all sorts of great single issues and collected editions that are coming out of the woodwork to get you all twisted into a much more awesome and better-looking version that you were before. I don’t know how that’s possible, but I’m pretty sure that it’s what’s going to happen. Anyway, like I said, there are so many good books this week. We’ve got some awesome stuff coming in Dark Horse Presents, hopefully a good starting point for Animal Man, the second part of Superman’s origin in Action Comics, the newest issue of “The Best Comic In The World” Locke and Key, the second issue in what could be the best new comic of the year in Fatale, another strong candidate for comic of the year with Winter Soldier, and even more in single issues, you guys. That’s not even touching the collected editions, but we’ll get to that later. Some of the comics mentioned above will be chosen, but which ones are as yet undetermined, so read forth young geeklings to find what books that we have picked out for you… within The GoD List.

Creative Team Shake Up On Three DC Comics

DC Change Up (art by Chris Burnham, Ryan Sook and J.G. Jones)

DC Comics announced on Tuesday that a handful of comics in the “dark” line of “The New 52” would have a changing of creative teams. Stormwatch, Justice League Dark, and Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. will all be affected by this shift of comic book writers including Peter Milligan, Jeff Lemire, and Matt Kindt.

First up, let’s take a look at Stormwatch. Stormwatch, in my opinion, has been a sleeper hit that has yet to appeal to a mass audience under the guidance of the incomparable Paul Cornell. And while I’ve loved the series, I can admit that the comic has yet to take off or feel important, so it’s not a surprise to me that veteran Peter Milligan has replaced Cornell to bring a new direction to the series. Cornell announced a couple of months ago that he would be leaving the title, but until now we haven’t learned who his permanent replacement would be. Milligan promises to bring an added intensity to the title that will force the science fiction nature of this book to become even more prevalent and it will certainly breathe new life into the title.

Captain Marvel Officially Becomes ‘Shazam’ In DC Comics

Captain Marvel by Alex Ross

Geoff Johns and DC Comics have announced that the legendary boy turned hero Captain Marvel will officially have his name changed to Shazam.

Captain Marvel has been a staple in the history and continuity of DC Comics for decades, but has also been a hot topic of debate both inside and outside the comics fandom. There’s been massive amounts of legal issues with Marvel Comics over the name as well, due to Marvel holding intellectual property over the name as a title for a comic book. So, the comics in which he appears have traditionally been under some sort of variation of Shazam, and the phrase was used for young Billy Batson to turn into the all powerful magic hero. But legal problems aren’t also the only problem with Captain Marvel as the non-comics reading public misunderstands the character’s actual name, as the majority are convinced that the character has always been known as Shazam, partially as a result of the 1974 television series.

New Oni Press Logo

Independent comic book publishing company Oni Press is following suit in this season’s redesigns when they unveiled a brand new logo on Thursday that will soon be on all upcoming releases.

For the first time since the company’s first appearance on the comic book scene in 1997, Oni Press has announced that it’s time for a change. The company has evolved, and they’re simply not the same company that they were when they debuted. And I have to agree.
