Ohhhhhhhhhhh sweet, sweet nectar. These are the weeks that make me love comics oh so much. As I was putting together this list each week, I usually start with a general idea of what books I want to talk about and how many I’ll be writing about on any given week. This week I thought I knew what I was going to write about, but then new books jumped off the release list and demanded that I recommend them to you, and the list just kept getting bigger. There is just such a metric crap load of great books coming out this week that I just can’t wait to tell you about so let’s just get to it and an over-sized The GoD List!

With last week’s Blue Moon, MK had to return to his natural home of Smurf Village to welcome the newest member of Smurf Village. Wrassly Smurf has a lot of smurfberries to harvest, and Papa Smurf does not care fore slackers, so it is up to Rummy Smurf to pass on some comic picks for this week. However, he has work to do as well, so we just get a couple of suggestions this week. These smurfberries aren’t going to harvest themselves, so let’s get into The GoD List!

Digital Comics Deal: Icon 20% Off Sale

Icon, the creator-owned subsidiary of publisher Marvel Comics, has possibly one of the best stables of creators and comic book titles in their arsenal, and care of Comixology, you can catch up on titles like Criminal, Powers, Casanova, and more with a cool 20 percent off sale.
Yes, that’s right! You’ve seen the praise for Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips‘ creator-owned work on this site before, and that’s with good reason, as Criminal and Incognito are two of the most innovative works in their fields. Both comics completely suck you in to their gritty, crime-ridden world setting and tell a story that is simply unforgettable. I even suggested that you catch up on Criminal on this past week’s GoD List, so if you for some reason weren’t listening to me, here’s your perfect opportunity. There’s not a single issue of Criminal or Incognito for over the price of $1.50. What are you waiting for?

The GoD List: Comics for June 1, 2011
|
 |
Each week, MK2Fac3 and Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull list, grab some issues and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 1, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.
Apparently, I took all the comics that MK2Fac3 wanted to talk about this week, which I can’t be held responsible for, so you fine readers will get an extra helping of my suggestions. I hope you enjoy.
ISSUES
Criminal: Last of the Innocent #1 (Marvel/Icon – $3.99): I’m very excited that Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips‘ Criminal is back with a new story. Criminal is consistently one of the best books on the market and it’s a shame that more people don’t give this book a shot. Every story arc is a self-contained story, but Brubaker also has created a universe where all of the stories exist and long-term readers are rewarded with Easter Eggs showing how the stories are connected. The art by Sean Phillips sets the perfect mood for this series and always impresses. If you’ve been reading Brubaker and Phillips’ Incognito but haven’t been reading Criminal, it’s time to jump on board. And if you haven’t been reading Criminal or Incognito, well then you have a lot of reading to do.
